The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday said it has 338,227
applicants as the number of 2016 Nigerian Police Recruitment Shortlisted
Candidates out of the 911,438 that applied for the Nigeria Police Recruitment 2016.
Following the approval by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police Service Commission began on 1st
April, 2016 the recruitment of 10,000 applicants into the Nigerian
Police force for the positions of Cadet Assistant Superintendent of
Police (ASP), for Cadet Inspector and Police Constables.

Okiro, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission disclosed in a news
conference in Abuja that the screening of successful applicants would
begin on 6th June, 2016 in the 36 states of the federation
and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the commission now has
338,227 candidates as the 2016 Nigerian Police Recruitment Shortlisted
Candidates for the screening exercise.
Mr Okiro said, “I would
like to emphasize that the initial shortlisting of applicants was done
electronically… Invitation letters were also sent to 2016 Nigerian
Police Recruitment Shortlisted Candidates through SMS and to their
personal email addresses.”
Mr. Mike Okiro who is the chairman of
the commission explained that 44,661 candidates were shortlisted for
Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP); 87,736 candidates were
shortlisted for Cadet Inspectors and 205,830 candidates were shortlisted
for Police Constables.
He went further to warn applicants against
fake letters from criminal elements, stressing that “the invitation
which was sent to 2016 Nigerian Police Recruitment Shortlisted
Candidates through SMS and personal email addresses contains the date
for each person’s screening and venue of the screening.”
“2016
Nigerian Police Recruitment Shortlisted Candidates will be grouped
according to their local government areas and a date fixed for their
screening”, he stressed.
The chairman said that this was to avoid
overcrowding at the screening venue and also for meticulous and smooth
sailing of the exercise.
Mr. Mike Okiro warned that no applicant
would be admitted into any venue or appear on any date other than those
allocated to him or her.
“After the screening, successful
candidates would be invited to a zonal screening to be held in the 12
police zonal headquarters in the country”, said the chairman of the
service.
Mr. Mike Okiro emphasized that the Commission had been transparent
since the filling and submission of forms started, saying “I want to
re-emphasis that the Commission will be guided by the rules and will be
fair, transparent and ensure that the process is merit-driven… As a
commission, we have collectively and individually sworn to make this
project a huge success.”
“The Nigeria Police needs the best, especially now that the nation is engaged in several battles.”
In
a remark, Mr Femi Adenaike, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police
in charge of training, said all training schools and colleges were
rehabilitated and ready to admit successful applicants.
The
reports have it that 262,426 applicants applied for Cadet Assistant
Superintendent of Police (ASP), 211,832 applied for Cadet Inspector and
437,144 for Police Constables. It is only unfortunate and inevitable
that 573,211 candidates were disqualified at the first stage.
The Police Service Commission (PSC), on April 1st,
2016 began the process of recruiting 10,000 eligible Nigerians into
various cadres of the Police Force, based on a presidential directive.
There
has been lot of questions and concerns over the 2016 Nigerian Police
Recruitment Shortlisted Candidates in the past few days as applicants
seemed to be losing patience and eager to know their fate.
Giving an update on the recruitment exercise which closed on May 13th,
the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mike Okiro, on
Thursday in Abuja, said the second phase of the recruitment will be done
in state commands and the Federal Capital Territory.
